WASHINGTON – As the federal government entered its second day of a shutdown Thursday, members of Ohio’s congressional delegation are once again calling for members of Congress to forfeit their pay during the impasse – a refrain that surfaces each time lawmakers fail to fund the government.

The shutdown began just after 12 a.m. Wednesday when lawmakers could not reach agreement on federal funding. Republicans and Democrats have blamed each other for the impasse, with the stalemate leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed or working without pay while congressional salaries continue uninterrupted under constitutional provisions for mandatory spending.
