JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The city of Monett has been awarded $4.59 million to upgrade the wastewater treatment system for the community.

According to a Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) news release, the project is estimated to cost $5.7 million and is planned to be completed in October 2026.

The department says the update will address reliability issues with the wastewater treatment plant's aeration equipment. DNR will work to improve nutrient removal and extend the system's life and efficiency.

The project will consist of a $4.59 million loan and local funds of $1.1 million, the release says.

DNR states its funding is estimated to aid the city's ratepayers by around $1.90 million in interest over the loan's 20-year term.
