MONDOVI, Wis. (WXOW) – Wisconsin soybean farmers are feeling the effects of international trade tensions as tariff reactions impact their industry.
With soybeans contributing $1 billion to Wisconsin's economy, the stakes are high. Sixty-six percent of the state's soybeans are exported, according to Wisconsin Soybean Association President Dave Rebout.
"The majority of [our exports] are Canada, Mexico; and we are kind of hitting eastern Europe and Northern Africa," he said.
Recent trade wars, however, have led to a steep decline for Wisconsin farmers.
"We're losing thousands of dollars just from the fact that we can't export them," said Dan Linse, a farmer from Mondovi.
