GREER, S.C. —

Coach Louie Golden was a coaching legend in the Upstate, and now his family is honoring his legacy through the Alzheimer's Association.

“He’s the third-winningest high school boys coach in the history of South Carolina. He’s also the winningest athletic director in the state of South Carolina," said his son, Shaun Golden.

When coach Louie Golden died in 2021, he left behind a legacy of love and respect, according to his family

"He was just a jolly man," Shaun said. "People loved him, respected him, and still adore his presence and his legacy and what he built."

But, later in the coach's life, he and his family were met with an unexpected diagnosis.
