Munich airport suspended operations on Thursday night after air traffic control officials reported multiple drone sightings. The airport cancelled 17 flights and diverted 15 others to Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna, and Frankfurt.

Nearly 3,000 passengers faced disruptions, according to the airport’s statement.

Suspension & Security Tensions

German air traffic control restricted flight operations at 10.18 pm local time on Thursday and then suspended them completely. Flight tracking service Flightradar24 reported that the airport would stay closed until 4.59 am local time on Friday. The airport’s website listed the first arrival at 5.25 am and the first departure at 5.50 am.
