LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - An emergency on the front lines of 911. In Ingham County, some dispatchers are working up to 80 hours a week. Interim Director Darin Southworth is calling it a severe staffing crisis.
“They are working a lot of hours and we need to put a dent in that. We’ve got to give them a work life balance,” said Southworth.
Right now, Ingham County 911 is operating with minimal staff.
“Only got 27 fully staffed. We got people retiring coming up here, so we’re going to get even shorter than we are now,” said dispatcher Miles Sullivan.
Dispatcher Savannah Kelly said the crisis has been going on for about four months.
“We’ll get a day off here and there, but for the most part we know we’re working every day,” said Kelly.
