A man who struck police officers with his car door after mounting a kerb has lost his bid to work as a private hire driver . ‌

Police Scotland told Glasgow’s licensing chiefs that Twana Abdulkader Jalal became “aggressive” after officers witnessed him “drive up a public footpath”. The force objected to his application for a private hire licence, which was then rejected by councillors. ‌

Cllr Sean Ferguson, SNP, who was chairing the licensing committee yesterday, said: “It’s quite an unflattering narrative that’s been put on show here.” ‌

Councillors heard how Mr Jalal had mounted a kerb on Paisley Road West in February 2023. Police officers told him “leaving his vehicle would be a danger to the public”.
