Surviving death row is an experience that seems to be ripped straight from the pages of a thriller novel. However, for one man in the US, this became his reality after he survived an attempted lethal injection due to a botched attempt last year. ‌

Thomas Creech, Idaho's longest-serving death row inmate, had his execution repeatedly postponed after the medical team failed to locate an IV line, thus "rendering the execution unable to proceed". ‌

The team spent over an hour attempting to find a suitable vein in his hands, arms, legs and ankles, but eventually admitted defeat, returning him to his cell. ‌
