KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Former Maryville College football coach Phil Wilks got a knee infection after having knee replacement surgery and a group of doctors came together to help save his leg.
Wilks coached at Maryville College for 15 years and later became an assistant coach at Powell High School. Wilks said he cherishes those moments being on the sideline.
“It was something I loved doing. I loved working with the kids. I loved what I was doing, the sport,” Wilks said. “I just thoroughly enjoyed every moment.”
Years after finishing his coaching career, Wilks had to get knee replacement surgery. He already had one knee replaced, but this surgery took a bad turn as his knee got infected post-surgery.
