Stock Market Opening Bell: The BSE Sensex opened Friday’s session sharply lower at 80,684.14, down 299.17 points or 0.94 per cent. Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 started at 24,759.55, slipping 76.75 points or 0.31 per cent.
In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices were trading with modest gains of 0.13 per cent each, offering some support to the market mood.
Earlier on Wednesday, October 1, the benchmark indices had managed to snap an eight-day losing streak after the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (RBI MPC) kept the repo rate steady at 5.5 per cent and maintained its stance at Neutral. On that day, the Sensex gained 0.89 per cent to close at 80,983, while the Nifty50 advanced 0.92 per cent to 24,836 levels.
