Spud growers have blasted a major frozen chip and fast food fry processor, saying a change in how they negotiate with those who supply the raw product is pushing them to the brink.
Thirlstane farmer Matt Ryan said growers were no longer negotiating with local Simplot representatives but dealing with procurement management out of the US.
"Their behaviour has been appalling and we call on them to negotiate in good faith,' Mr Ryan said.
"We had a good system in place, but the company has turned its back on that.
"They have basically slammed the door shut on negotiations."
Mr Ryan's stance was echoed by Simplot Potato Growers chairman Leigh Elphinstone.
"There is anger in the industry. Absolute bitter disappointment that after years of having a strong relationship with Simplot we are bei
