The New Mexico Public Education Department filed an initial draft of a remedial action plan in a landmark education lawsuit by a court-ordered deadline Wednesday, the agency announced Thursday.
The draft plan to address a 2018 ruling in Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico was developed with feedback from thousands of participants in physical and virtual community listening sessions and respondents to an online survey, Public Education Secretary Mariana Padilla said.
“We are so grateful to the people of the state for showing up and participating in the community engagement process,” she said in a statement. “The response has been thoughtful and inspiring and will meaningfully impact education for the young people in our state.”
