LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) -Suwannee County Sheriff’s deputies have announced the installation of a new license plate reading system.

Officials report that they have installed “Flock Safety Cameras” at various locations throughout the county.

This technology is expected to assist deputies in criminal investigations and cases involving missing persons.

Community leaders are reassuring residents that the system does not utilize facial recognition.

Other agencies in the area, such as the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake City Police Department, are using a similar system for gunshot detection.
