Fans in Kansas City gathered to celebrate the newest album by popstar Taylor Swift Thursday evening.

Number balloons for Swift’s twelfth album along with teal and orange balloons were used as centerpieces at O’Dowd’s Gastrobar.

Local musician Chloe Rose performed cover songs by Taylor Swift for hours leading up to the release of the new album.

“We have a lot of Swifties inside. They're going to make friendship bracelets. We have specialty cocktails inside and I just played a four-hour set of Taylor Swift covers,” Rose said.

Fans in Kansas City are looking forward to how Swift’s newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be different from her previous albums.

“She says it's like very different from her other stuff so I'm just curious what else she can come up with. I feel like she's done every genre that you can really think of and I'm excited to see what she comes up with,” Rose said.

“I'm excited that it's more pop. I do like her slower songs, but I'm excited to get back to like 1989 reputation vibes and the collaborators that she has on this album is going to be electric,” Tara Pickarell, a Kansas City resident and Taylor Swift fan said. “I'm very excited.”

With Swift’s recent engagement to Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce, Swift’s connection to Kansas City is still important to local fans.

“I think her whole life she's wrote songs about finding that kind of love and the fact that she's found that and he seems like such a great person and that they can just like enjoy each other's company. I love that for them. I think it just only going to continue to grow. I feel like they're two really good people and they have fun and it makes life enjoyable and I think that's what they deserve,” Katie Laws, a Kansas City resident and Taylor Swift fan said. “I think it's just going to continue to grow and I think the city is just like you know we they open their new restaurant and you know there's a safe space for her here and I love that so it's exciting that we get to be a part of that for sure.”

After the album was officially released at 11 a.m. central time, those who stayed through the night started listening to the new songs and continue the party into the night.
