NEW YORK — Growing up outside Boston, Cam Schlittler was no different from any other ballplayer who starred on the local diamonds imagining one day suiting up in a huge Red Sox-Yankees showdown.

Thursday night the Walpole native lived out every young New England kid’s dream — only with a brutally ironic twist.

Schlittler enjoyed one of the greatest postseason debuts in MLB history, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-0 win over the Red Sox in a winner-take-all Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. The 24-year-old threw eight shutout innings, struck out 12 and limited Boston to just five hits with no walks in a historic performance.
