RORY MCILROY was one of Team Europe's heroes at the Ryder Cup.

He scored three points to help his team to a historic win on American soil - just Team Europe 's fifth ever.

And he did so while having to deal with abuse from the home crowd, with even his wife Erica Stoll on the receiving end of insults and missiles being thrown.

McIlroy has garnered plenty of respect with his display at Bethpage Black but it has sparked some bogus claims from social media accounts.

In the wake of Team Europe's 15-13 victory it was claimed McIlroy donated his $10.9million bonus to a charity in Northern Ireland .

However Team Europe stars do not get paid for their participation in the Ryder Cup , and there are no bonuses.

The US team did each get paid a stipend of $200,000 on top of a $300,000
