CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the wake of growing concerns over rider safety, Charlotte city leaders announced enhanced security measures aimed at increasing safety on public transit systems.

CATS is deploying bike and utility terrain vehicle patrols along the Blue Line. The goal is to increase visibility and response times across the light rail's highest-traffic areas, according to the agency.

The announcement comes just weeks after a deadly stabbing of Iryna Zarutska aboard the LYNX Blue Line train that shocked the community and gained national attention and intensified calls for action.
