Chennai: Justice N. Senthilkumar of the Madras High Court on Tuesday described the death of 41 people in the Karur stampede as “agonizing,” and sharply questioned the adequacy of the police investigation, noting that only two individuals had been arrested so far. During a hearing on a batch of petitions related to the tragedy, the judge singled out the conduct of Tamil Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and actor Vijay, stating, “The party leader fled from the scene of occurrence. Vanished,” and expressed dismay over the perceived police inaction against him.
