SHREVEPORT, La. -- If you’re downtown near Common and Cotton streets Saturday, be sure to look up. That’s because civilians will be rappelling 15 stories down the Fairmont Apartment building as part of a unique fundraiser.

The event is crewed by the urban rappelling group Over the Edge and gives participants the chance to rappel after raising funds for two local nonprofits: the Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest Louisiana and Shreveport Common.

Lee Jeter, executive director of the Fuller Center, said the event highlights an important cause.

“This is going to be an exciting event. It’s a great opportunity for our two nonprofits to work together, to fundraise, to build homes and reduce blight,” Jeter said.
