: A 26-year-old man was lynched on Thursday evening after he requested that a Zubeen Garg song be played during celebrations at a Durga Puja pandal in Bamunimaidam, Guwahati.

The victim, identified as Avinash Rajak, had asked for Garg’s songs while dancing at the Kalibari Jagriti Sangha Railway Colony Puja mandap. His request reportedly angered a group of around 20–25 youths, allegedly led by Sujit Sarkar and Ratul Bora, who launched a brutal attack on him.

Rajak sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to KGMT Hospital in Gitanagar, where he was declared dead. His death has triggered tension in the locality.

The victim’s family has lodged a complaint at Chanmari Police Station. Police said an investigation is underway to identify and arrest all those involved.
