BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- One Bills player is always trying to connect more families with pets and inform them of the different benefits animals provide.

It's safe to say that Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir is a dog guy.

"If it was up to me, I'd have 20 dogs, but wifey wouldn't allow that," he said.

Shakir and his wife, Sayler Shakir, were happy with one, until they went to a dog adoption event at KeyBank Center and met Missy.

"In the back right corner, she was just laying there and I picked her up and looked at my wife and was like, 'Yeah, we're getting another dog,'" Khalil said.

It was that moment that led the two to start their Shakir Family Pet Adoption Event, which is now in its second year.
