BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The union representing Zachary school bus drivers is accusing First Student, the company that runs the district’s buses, of cheating workers out of pay.
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1546 (ATU 1546) claims drivers weren’t paid their guaranteed wages on several virtual learning days, even though the school district funded those services. The union also says First Student made workers use their own personal days to cover the pay the company owed them, and has ignored complaints from employees.
“First Student has taken taxpayer money without paying the workers who keep our kids safe. That’s wage theft and potentially fraud,” said ATU Local 1546 President George DeCuir Jr.
