LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 2011, a former Nebraska running back was trying to get his freedom.

Thunder Collins was convicted of murder in a botched drug deal.

On this date 14 years ago, he asked a judge for a new trial, saying the jury in his first trial should have been sequestered the weekend they deliberated.

He lost that appeal, and another that he took to the Nebraska Supreme Court.

Today, Collins remains in the state penitentiary, serving a live sentence.
