The tariff refund isn’t dead yet.

President Donald Trump on Thursday indicated that the potential $2,000 refund check for Americans is still very much on the table, the New York Post reported.

Trump in the past has talked about sending Americans a refund from the money being generated by the trade tariffs that the president has placed on countries around the world.

“They’re just starting to kick in,” Trump said of the tariffs in an interview with One America News Network, “but ultimately, your tariffs are going to be over a trillion dollars a year.”

But there’s a catch when it comes to sending some of that money to the American people.

“Number one, we’re paying down debt,” Trump said, “because people have allowed the debt to go crazy.”
