MARLIN, Texas — The Marlin Independent School District Board of Trustees has unanimously selected the Deputy Superintendent of Lamar CISD Alphonso Bates as the lone finalist for their superintendent position, following an intensive search process that began with the departure of Dr. Darryl Henson.

Bates, who serves as deputy superintendent of Lamar CISD and is a former interim superintendent of Community ISD, was chosen 7-0 by the board to lead the district.

“We had a really strong set of candidates, and Mr. Bates stood out for his wisdom, his experiences in small, mid-size and large school systems and his extensive track record of academic success,” said Byrleen Terry, Marlin ISD's Board President .
