It was timely hitting, not volume of hitting, that lifted the Grand Junction High School softball team past Central in Thursday’s rivalry contest. The Tigers knocked of the Warriors 5-3 behind only six hits to take sole possession of first place in the Southwestern League.

The Tigers struck for three runs in the third to take an early lead. The Warriors responded with a pair of runs the next half-inning to close the gap temporarily, but Grand Junction responded with two runs in the fifth to build their lead to a margin that Central could not overcome.
