LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky health officials issued a statewide health alert Monday following a significant increase in mosquito-borne illnesses, with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department confirming its fourth case of West Nile virus this year.
The Kentucky Department for Public Health reported 19 cases of West Nile virus statewide, including one death, compared to an average of seven cases in previous years.
The person who died was a resident of Daviess County, according to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
