MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Doctors are sounding the alarm on breast cancer misinformation spreading across social media, saying its keeping some people from getting screened.
One common myth circulating online is that men cannot get breast cancer. Doctors say that’s not true, and while cases are less common, men can and do get the disease.
The second misconception addressed involves mammogram radiation.
CARTI Cancer Center in Breast Imaging Radiologist Dr. Stephen Routon say some people are avoiding screenings out of fear of exposure, but the radiation from a mammogram is minimal - it is comparable to the amount of sunlight a person receives in two weeks.
