GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Say hello to Hugo!
The John Ball Zoo announced on Friday that after a week-long naming contest , its new pygmy hippo calf will be called Hugo.
Zoo officials said the name means smart and spirited, "just like we expect him to be."
"Thank you to everyone who voted and donated. Your support helps us provide the best care for Hugo and all the animals who call John Ball Zoo home," the zoo said in a Facebook post .
Hugo and his mother, Penelope, are still bonding together behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean the public hasn't gotten a sneak peek into Hugo's daily shenanigans through the zoo's social media.
The zoo said they're hoping Hugo will make his first public appearance in his habitat later this month, and in the meantime, you can keep an eye on Hugo thro
