In his recent commentary, Kevin Igoe speculates on the purpose behind U.S. Chris Van Hollen’s rising political profile ( “What are Chris Van Hollen’s ambitions?” Oct. 1). I can answer the author’s question very succinctly: His goal appears to be making a fool of himself. His antics mock Maryland voters for electing him.

If Van Hollen’s goal is to become a leader, he may want to get some outside advice.
