CUMBERLAND, N.C. — Due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Army has cancelled their annual Best Squad Competition due to a lapse in appropriations.

The government shutdown resulting from Congress' inability to agree on and pass a fiscal year 2026 budget, or reach a temporary funding deal, forced the Army to cancel its fourth annual Best Squad Competition, according to a brief service statement . The competition was scheduled to start Oct. 2 and run through Oct. 15 at Fort Bragg, N.C.

It has not been announced if or when the event will be rescheduled.

The annual competition tests soldiers' ability to function as the best unit under demanding conditions, usually designed to replicate real combat challenges.
