A boy escaped his burning Dauphin County home Friday morning after a fire broke out while he was using the stove.

Penbrook Fire Chief Jason Musser said the fire was reported at 9:15 a.m. in the 2800 block of Banks Street and they arrived one minute later. The boy, who had been home alone, escaped without injury.

The fire started in the kitchen on the first floor when the young boy was cooking, Musser said.

“I think there was an issue with the stove,” he said. “He kept trying to light it, and it wouldn’t light. Then it caught on fire and it [the fire] took off too quick.”

As soon as the boy saw the growing flames, he ran outside, the fire chief said.
