Gleny Asencio De Valdez had recently received her driver’s permit and wasn’t supposed to be driving without a licensed driver in the car.

But on Sept. 28, 2023, the friend who usually picked her up for work was running late, so De Valdez, now 48, got into a car and headed to work.

Driving north on Fruitville Pike in Manheim Township, De Valdez, of Lancaster, turned left onto Manheim Pike, failing to see Chris McCann, who had the right-of-way. McCann, an off-duty Lancaster city firefighter, crashed his motorcycle into her car and died of his injuries at Lancaster General Hospital 16 days later.
