LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Schenectady were greeted by the Tri Valley Cats mascot, South Paw, and members from local health organizations on Friday for a winter coat drive. Hosted by Highmark Blue Shield and Operation Warm, the event helped provide 400 elementary students with new winter coats.

The coat drive furthers Highmark Blue Shield's mission of enhancing children's health, while nonprofit Operation Warm establishes higher confidence among students in need with new coats, shoes, and sports bras. Other organizations that attended the coat drive in Schenectady were Albany Med Foundation, Girls on the Run, Ellis Medicine, Siena College, Schenectady School District, and the Capital District YMCA.
