Doctors at a Massachusetts animal hospital treated a turtle with a baseball-sized bladder stone on Wednesday.

According to a social media post by the New England Wildlife Center, the chelonian had a one-pound urolith stuck inside the turtle.

An X-ray photo shows the blockage.

"This was one of the larger stones we have seen," a New England Wildlife Center spokesperson said. "It took the collaboration of three of our expert turtle vets to get the job done."

Wildlife officials say in extreme cases such as this, veterinarians need to remove part of the bone to create a "window" on the bottom of the shell to access the turtle's bladder and remove the stone.
