WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The lane shifts that have been in place for the last several months where I-95 North meets Route 4 North in Warwick will be removed Friday night.

However, there may still be travel impacts in the coming weeks, according to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT).

It's the final phase of a project to widen that part of the highway corridor to provide more space for merging traffic. The goal, RIDOT said, is to reduce congestion, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.

Starting the night of Sunday, Oct. 5, there may be some lane closures and milled, uneven surfaces as RIDOT crews work to repave that stretch of highway.

Planned lane closures will be posted on RIDOT's website, and as always, all of the work is weather dependent.
