LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Congressman Morgan McGarvey (D-3) is asking Department of Education officials to restore nearly $10 million in federal grants to JCPS.
The Department of Education is pulling the grants from the district because of civil rights violations.
In a letter that was sent to Education Secretary Linda McMahon, McGarvey said the approach by the department was "premature, wrong, and reckless," and that pulling millions of dollars in the middle of the school year brings confusion among students, parents, and faculty members.
The $9.7 million Magnet School Assistance Program grant was awarded to JCPS in 2024 and allowed programs at Western High School and Coleridge Taylor Elementary to expand.
