WILLIAMSBURG — THE SHINE A LIGHT WALK NEW YORK TAKES PLACE THIS WEEKEND AT MCCARREN PARK TO HELP END TUMORS. The Children’s Tumor Foundation is hosting the walk to fund research that will halt this incurable group of genetic conditions, often referred collectively as NF, that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. This “invisible” disease is oft-overlooked, or confused with other conditions, such as dermatological skin tags.
While patients often appear perfectly healthy, NF tumors can lead to blindness, bone abnormalities, learning disabilities, motor delays and cancer. In many cases, NF tumors are impossible to remove and symptoms puzzle doctors.
