BATH BEACH TO GRAVESEND — GARBAGE CANS to keep street litter contained HAVE BEEN RETURNED TO a stretch of Kings Highway, thanks to advocacy from Assemblymember William Colton, D-47. Colton reached out to the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) after it removed garbage cans from several corners along a portion of the Kings Highway commercial strip. DSNY blamed repeated misuse by people dumping bags of household and commercial trash in the bins, which are meant for street litter. The overflow caused filth, smells and attracted vermin. Even after the trash cans were removed, people continued littering because there was no receptacle available.
The DSNY by late September restored several trash cans to their former spots, but the agency declined to return one of the cans near the Highlawn Av
