Republican lawmakers launched a scathing rebuke of Democrats on Friday as polls showed voters being more likely to blame President Donald Trump and the GOP for the government shutdown.

House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer and Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei accused Democrats of using the shutdown as a negotiation tactic to force concessions on health care that they claim would add more than a trillion dollars to the federal budget.

“We’ve done our job,” Emmer said. “There is nothing to negotiate.”

The government shutdown entered its third day Friday after Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on a continuing resolution to keep the government running until new federal funding is passed.
