FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has announced its new superintendent. Don Phipps will officially be appointed to the role effective Dec. 1.
Phipps, a longtime North Carolina school leader, has served as superintendent of Caldwell County Schools since 2018. During his tenure, he helped stabilize the district’s finances while boosting student performance. He previously led Beaufort County Schools for eight years and began his career at Cumberland County Schools, a district similar in size and demographics to WS/FCS.
He will serve on a 15-month contract, succeeding Interim Superintendent Catty Q. Moore, whose term ends Nov. 30.
Phipps was appointed during a special-called meeting by the Board of Education on Friday.
