It appears the shared volunteer fire service between Grimsby and Lincoln will be dissolved in the coming months.
A report going to the joint fire services advisory committee on Oct. 8 recommends the two municipalities abandon the shared services pilot project that began in 2021 and return to separate fire departments.
The report was prepared by Grimsby chief administrative officer (CAO) Sarah Kim and Lincoln CAO Mike Kirkopoulos and is based on the findings of Emergency Management Group Inc. (EMG), the consultant hired to review the shared services model.
“Based on EMG’s findings, their strong recommendation to both CAOs, and extensive stakeholder feedback, we are recommending Option 1 — the dissolution of the shared Fire Service and Fire Chief model,” the report states.
