A handcrafted antique duck call made by the late Arkansas sportsman and hunter Pop Pickle fetched a hefty sum at a Syracuse, New York, auction last month.

The lucrative sale is one of those Antiques Roadshow -style windfalls, considering the palm-sized, hand-whittled contraption last sold for a dollar at a Texas garage sale.

Sadly for all of us, Pop Pickle bid his final farewell to the Arkansas bottomlands in 1965 after a long career as a hunter and professional guide. The Craighead County native’s legacy lives on in the unique duck calls he crafted from local walnut wood using a technique that would come to be known as the “Pickle style.”
