EVERETT, Wash — Everett police are investigating after a U.S. Postal Service worker was reportedly shot Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to an apartment building at 9300 W Mall Drive around 12:50 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to the Everett Police Department.

"This level of violence, to this extent of somebody actually pulling a gun and shooting a carrier in the face, it's pretty extreme and it's very, very rare for us," said John Wiegand, USPS postal inspector.

The victim, a USPS postal worker, was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the face. A spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center said he is in critical condition.

Police said the suspect, identified as a package delivery driver, is in custody and that there is no danger to the public.
