PHILADELPHIA − Recent baseball history is dotted with matchups where a team will throw left-handed starting pitchers to neutralize the other team's top lefties.

The Detroit Tigers , for example, often sat left-handed power hitter Kerry Carpenter against lefties, while the Yankees would bump leadoff hitter Trent Grisham (with 34 homers) down from first in the order to sixth or seventh, if they didn't sit him.

The Phillies do this, too, with left-handed hitters Bryson Stott, Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh often sitting against lefties.

The Dodgers don't care. They will hit Shohei Ohtani first and Freddie Freeman third or fourth, with righty Mookie Betts in between them, no matter who's pitching. Celebrate the Eagles' Super Bowl victory with our new book Phillies Playoff Tickets Buy
