CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte city and transit leaders unveiled new security measures designed to enhance safety across the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), following the tragic death of Iryna Zarutska on the Blue Line in August.

Officials highlighted increased visibility for security officers, expanded patrol coverage and new tools aimed at making riders feel safer while using buses, trains and transit stations.

“Safety is and continues to be top priority,” Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said. “No one should feel unsafe getting to work, school or home to family.”
