The federal trial begins Monday on the bribery case of Konstantinos “Kosta” Diamantis, the former head of the state’s school construction program.
Diamantis, also a former lawmaker, is accused of demanding kick-backs in exchange for steering work on various school construction projects to certain companies.

Diamantis has pleaded not guilty and hired attorney Norm Pattis, who was unavailable for an interview this week.
Jury selection wrapped up Friday. Diamantis is charged with bribery, extortion, conspiracy related to both offenses and issuing false statements.
Diamantis took over as director of the state’s Office of School Construction, which oversees state reimbursements to towns for projects.
He was hired to t
