A nasty teacher strike is about to pile on top of an increasingly weird city hall election.
The strike will last no later than Oct. 27, trust me.
The mayor’s race is an odd one, propelled by two huge issues that cover the whole city but no obvious front-runner for the mayor’s chair.
The strike begins in earnest Monday morning.
The worst-case scenario is an ugly three-week school shutdown ended by a government back-to-work law.
On Friday, the Alberta Teachers Association said the parties “have resumed exploratory conversation with regard to reaching a negotiated settlement.”
That’s good news of sorts, but then the union adds: “The strike has not been averted. Teachers will be commencing job action on Monday, October 6.”
