He makes his message plain.

“Nobody needs to chirp from the cheap seats to try to gain some political points.”

The man speaks of “lame-duck politicians trying to increase their own exposure.”

“I don’t think anybody should be piggybacking on an unfortunate scenario.

“It is unhelpful.”

The man is Nate Horner, Premier Danielle Smith’s budget boss and her go-to guy on the teacher strike.

His verbal salvo is aimed at Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek, campaigning to keep her job, fighting for her political life and no doubt feeling good about once again gaining the political blessing and backing from city hall unions.

What a gift.

It’s as if Gondek sent Smith a good-luck fruit basket.

You see, among those Calgarians who are conservative voters Gondek is less popular than a bad cold.
