MINNEAPOLIS — During negotiations over the federal government shutdown, Republicans have been unable to advance a temporary funding resolution in the U.S. Senate because they don't have a large enough majority to bypass the filibuster.
Congressional Democrats have said they won't agree to fund the government unless Republicans make substantial concessions around health care, including reversing Medicaid changes made in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act and extending Affordable Care Act tax credits expiring at the end of this year. Republicans have said they're willing to negotiate issues like the tax credit extension, but separately, not as part of the government funding deal.
